Hello -
any plans to include Sopcast in the p2p shield anytime in the future?
In general, what exactly does the p2p shield do? In p2p/settings you can select
programs for which “downloads should be scanned”. However, seems like there is
much more more scanning going on that just downloaded files.
Wouldn’t the regular File system shield deal with any downloaded files?
I run emule occasionally over the years, never had a problem. (except for something I downloaded using it, but that was picked up by the AV before
it had a chance to do any damage.) The point is you have to differentiate between emule itself, and the stuff you download using emule.
I turned on the p2p filter, and it’s monitoring stuff like statistics.ini - that’s emule’s internal config file, a text file, where it keeps its settings.
I suppose if you’re really paranoid, you may want to keep it on, but for me it made no sense so I set the exception for emule.
Sopcast, I don’t really know what its doing - although I’ve never seen info linking it to malware. I don’t have any ports open on the router,
so at least there is no unsolicited garbage coming in. This seems like a possible candidate for the p2p filter.
