Hi everyone.
I just can’t seem to get my head around this setup.
I used to have AVG. AVG wanted to change the ports to 5110, 5111 etc for different email accounts. Do I revert back to 110 for avast4?
Can someone be more specific on exactly how to change the log in name? If I have a log in name of joe@internet.com how do I rewrite it?
Do I need to add anything to the .ini file?
Thanks.

i’m not too sure about the port
as for your login name…should be something like...joe@internet.com #pop.mail.internet.com
the blue one is your login name…red one is your pop server
also see this thread
hope it helps

Had similar problem with Thunderbird, applied the settings you advised, and its being scanned no problem!
Many thanks to you and the other entries in this post.

Ok, I tried this but had problems. It seemed to send mail, but when I tried to get my mail, I got this error message.
Sending of username did not succeed. mail server 127.0.0.1 responded: Cannot connect to pop server startech.net:100 , gethostbyname error 11001
I changed it back to the way I had it, and then my mail would come through.
I am using Thunderbird 7.3 and want to make sure that it is working with Avast. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

RCCI, I had problems with the latest Thunderbird build, smtp connection was ok but no stamping of mails.
After much help here (and head scratching on my part) I un-installed and downloaded another copy of the Thunderbird install file, and haven’t had any more problems.
It seemed to not save my smtp settings after a system shutdown, so perhaps the downloaded file was corrupt in some way. If you try a system shut down, then start and go to Thunderbird Tools, Account settings, Outgoing server, and see if it has retained the correct settings.
It might be one of the download mirrors has a problem (or had) with a slightly corrupted file.
Just food for thought, if it doesn’t help you could try Bugzilla

Ok, I got it working. I changed my server name to 127.0.0.1 but on my user name, I just used my user name and left off the - #myserver.net
It seems to be working fine now.
