Sound cards

I was wondering just out of curiosity, is radio streaming hard on the sound card?
Its just that on my old computer well its pretty old, the sound card sort of crapped out on me or is it just driver corruption I don’t know. But yeah, is internet streaming hard on the card?

BTW the computer is an oldy its a Windows2000, SP4 Think pad. So shhhhhhhh
I’m just using it as a back up k.

Anything degrades with continued use. Even I’m stating to feel it after 70 years. ;D

All depends on the bit-rate of the stream I suppose. Depending on how fast your CPU is, and how good the sound card is, it might “crap out” on you while listening, but it shouldn’t “break” it in any way.

You could always check for a driver update from whoever created the card, but I doubt there will be anything from the last 5 years or so.

If you can, select a lower bit rate stream and work your way up until you notice it not working so well.

Well-p been using a low bit rate for streaming despite my high speed access to save on usage per month. I figured that might help but I guess for soundcards nope.

I tried even giving my computer another defrag but still no go.

I might try to even wipe my old computer and do a spring cleaning after my major project is done. Its the last thing I’m going to try doing to see if that will help.

BTW nothing is coming out of the sound except a few basic “bleeps and bloops”. Also when I diagnostic it with the PC doctor thingy it said that it couldn’t read the sound card and or it might be the driver problems. So will see.

Thanks for the help.

ps
Also worried that when I do a wipe in the future that that may not work since the CD doesn’t really work either. But I figure it as to do with low memory. :stuck_out_tongue:
Oh well doesn’t hurt to try. ;D

Mostly no.
