Hi malware fighters and forum friends,

I think to prevent this from happening, because this can be very inconvenient to say the least if you open this up in the wrong place and on the wrong machine (use your phantasy), that the administration of this webforum should bring in a filter to remove pictures of an explicit nature, while Google can, MSN can and all other picture search engines can) Avast should do this too to protect their forum members, so traces of this are not left in anyones cache or elsewhere on a comp.
I do not like my computer to be compromised in such a way.
NetNanny this forum PM for the sake of all, and if it is a hole in the software or registration procedures CLOSE it,

Got the same message from EdwardN, please ban his ass!

But maybe you should change your Email notification layout, because recieving a email from avast with the topic: New Personal Message: URGENT MESSAGE FROM ADMIN!!!

Could be misunderstood as the admin sending out something, maybe change the title to:

New Personal Message from Forum User: XXXXXX

sorry for bad english, I’m from Germany. Today I received a eMail with the notification of one new message. I opend and see a nude picture and spamtext. I hope the administration will delete the users. The following is the message without the picture:

The pn was send from the new user JessicaA with the title “URGENT MESSAGE FROM ADMIN!!!”
I did not delete the message because the Administration might want to see it. Thanks for helping.

I dont think the urgent message was anything built into the forums to send an email in that fashion i think someone has compromised the email database of the forum and has made a generic layout that has that as the subject line /shrug either way this is udder bull**** and i think that the forum admins have seen this problem before recently and are probably working to figure out the loophole, backdoor, or whatever happend so they can fix it but i would appreciate a post started by an admin thats locked that is updated daily at the least as to the resolution and cause and/or solution to this situation. Thats the least that they can do to acknowledge this and keep us updated as to the culprate and the required actions being taken to prevent/stop this.

also Alwil team You can avoid this by setting minimum e.g. 25 posts before being able use PM feature …

I couldnt agree more, however i did not notice that i had the pic or the links in there :o i was just aggrivated that i got an email in such a way from a well know reputable software company and wanted to address the issue.

I have received the same e-mail with the links as reported here. Scarey to think that an antivirus program users are being sent such stuff. Mine was from EdwardN on avast!WEBforum and the address was webadmin@asw.cz. The time was 9:30:46 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time so apparently whoever is doing is NOT blocked.

Is there some place other than the forum where can report this junk?

Same message here. The rudest form of advertising. Probably right to ban this scumbag, but of course this sort of creep (or business entity) will just come back with a new username/email. Don’t know what can be done, really. Glad it was via private message instead of direct to my email! That would have been a worry!

I got the same Spam, but since I hardly ever get email from the forum and didn’t know this bloke. I came to the forum to check it out before opening. I will now delete it. If you use Firefox, you can have pictures turned off in email in case of just this happening.
I did change my email address to one I don’t use often in gmail.
I can’t imagine why anyone would stop using Avast an excellent antivirus program because of this spam. One has nothing to do with the other.

it’s a PM, and if you have NOTIFICATION OF NEW PMs BY EMAIL set, you will get it in your email box as well (sent to you by the Avast Forum Email Daemon ( avast@asw.cz ). I agree, the header format for PM notification emails should be changed, because, until I visited the forum, I was under the impression that A: an admin was being entirely unprofessional, or B: an admin account had been compromised and was being used illigitimately. I now have all PM messages blocked. if someone needs to get in contact with me, they can ask for my email address in the thread I create. if an administrator needs to get in contact with me, they have access to my email address (in my account profile)

Yes, very unpleasant situation…

Last night I got the same e-mail from a different user, this morning I received it again from ‘EdwardN’…

I guess banning the users will not stop this scum. But I am sure something will be figured out. Unfortunately, I am not much of an expert and I doubt I could give a sensible suggestion…

But what worries me more are a few messages I read on the Forum, related to this issue, by enraged users blaming it all on the administrators, threatening to leave the Forum forever, etc. I don’t think this kind of attitude could help anything or anybody. And, then, isn’t it a bit too presumptious to think that Avast administrators could have anything to do with sending spam through the Avast system???

Nobody, no system is completely immune to unauthorised interventions, and the violators will become more and more inventive. Throwing the blame around and shooting angry words from the hip will not solve the problem. I think we should be more supportive.

Sorry for the non-technical message, but I like the idea of an Avast community spirit as much as I like the program itself… :slight_smile:
