Spiceworks and Avast

I am attempting to run Spiceworks on my network and it appears I need to set an exception in Avast for the scan to run appropriately. At first I was not able to scan anything, after adding an administrative login and password, I was able to scan a few computers, mostly printers…

Where would anyone suggest setting up the exception in Avast.

thanks,

I never used Spiceworks and don’t know exactly how it works.
But avast is not a firewall and does not block access to nothing. It’s just an antivirus.
On contrary, avast components needs access rights into your firewall.
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.

Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)

Does Spiceworks act like a proxy?
