spinnig tray icon won't stop [issue solved]

Hi to all,

I’m a newbie to avast! Great program. Thank you.

One question I couldn’t figure out (maybe overlooked the answer using the forum search option) is: There is the option “animated tray icon during scan”. But it will still spin when I disable the check box. If I disable “show tray icon” it will still be there and spinning. I left the program and restarted, still spinning during scan…

As I don’t like visual distractions in the corner of the screen, I would really like to disable that. Any ideas? What do I miss?
I have XP SP2, avast! 4.6 home (4.6.763 February build), Sygate pers. firewall 5.6.

What’s left here?
Did you boot (restart)?

This options could be manually set into avast4.ini file too (click ‘Settings’ in my signature). Requires boot.

Since there is an option to Animate the icon when scanning below the Show avast! tray icon (which is greyed out but remains ticked when you disable the Show avast! tray icon), perhaps that may still have an effect.

Why not just disable Animate the icon and leave the Show avast! tray icon enabled, see if that works, after all without the avast icon there is no access to the user interface to the on-access provider settings and information.

But as Tech said, perhaps you need to stop and restart avast or reboot for the changes to take effect ?

Well, the user can have a link (maybe in Desktop) to \ashdisp.exe or ashSimpl.exe :wink:

thank you for your answers. As you proposed, another boot resolved the issue (just restarting avast! was not enough).
