Recently noticed that the A ball never stops spinning. Has it always done this, or have I caught a virus or malware?
I believe it only used to turn when checking newly opened files or programs.
I have run Avast! 4.6 Home Edition, Ad-Aware SE, Spyware Doctor, Spyware Nuker XT, Spybot S&D, and ewido.
They all find various things, (mostly harmless)
I’m in need of reassurance about this revolving ball.
Yes, it only revloves when scanning (so something is happening), you can check exactly what it is scanning by displaying the ‘Show detailed info on performed action’ in the Web Shield, Customized…, Advanced Tab.
The higher the web shied settings/sensitivity the more it will scan.
I’ve played about with the settings and it seems the ball only revolves continuously when the standard shield is set to ‘high’.
When I set it to ‘normal’ it behaves as I thought it should, i.e. only when I am actively opening something.
I can’t remember what the default setting was originally but I may have changed it recently and forgotten.
That’s a load off my mind.
Thanks again.
P.S. This is a wonderful community Avast! have created.
Normal (the default setting) is fine for the Standard Shield as it doesn’t scan absolutly every file, that offers a balance between performance and protection without leaving you particularly vulnerable. You should also notice your boot time is slightly less as the same applies during boot.
