splash screen green

when icon is picked for scan monitor shuts down (not computer) then back on task, bar icons are green and blurry, scan works fine, then monitor goes black then back on and every things back to normal. just reformated and downloaded avast, have used avast for over a year with no problem and no virus! Have reinstalled twice ,same result

Do you mean the monitor turns into black and does not return to normal or, on contrary, some shadows and dark parts appear?

Can you run task monitor (ctrl+alt+del) and then see if ashserv.exe is taking all CPU resources?

Which are your scanning options? Archive files…
Operational System? Firewall? Other antivirus program installed?

as soon as i pick desktop icon screen screen shuts off (black, screen power light dims) then comes back on within 3 to 4 seconds with green task bar colors instead of blue. xp with sp2 firewall, as soon as i cancel after scan same thing happens and screen goes back to normal

Try a different monitor!

I’ll ask Eddy help here… It’s our hardware guru 8)
Anyway, are your video/monitor drivers updated?

I might be wrong, but it sounds to me like a “wind-up” from the “Blues Brothers” movie

up dated drivers ,only happens on start up with avast splash screen, no extra monitors layin’ around, neither does jake

just reformated
Reformat does not excist !

What excatly did you do and in what sequence?
Onboard video or a card?
What video chip/what card?
What driver version?
What chipset on the motherboard?
Any errors in Avast’s log file, the system log or the event log?

system calls it reformat ntfs When reinstalling operating disc and drivers, only original disks were used and avast is the only problem everything else is fine,no new stuff ,Cards, etc

What do you mean?
For the non-English spokers some short phrases are not easy to understand… what is ‘wind-up’? ::slight_smile:

Practical Joke, a bit of fun, like a clockwork toy, wind it up and watch it go.

problem solved : 256 colors was checked in display settings in avast properties. Duh…thanks For helping ellwood get rid of the blues

Now I am lost…

What display settings under avast! properties are you talking about ? There are no display settings under any section of avast! settings. You mean display properties under Windows display settings ? Or… am I missing something in here ???

For helping ellwood get rid of the blues
A blues brother without blues? That can't be right. :D

right click avast icon on start menu or desktop, pick properties, pick compatability tab, display settings is second item down on the page

There is no need to run Avast in compatible mode.

And those display settings are Windows settings, not Avast’s.

We see where you got it from now. However, that is a function of windows (not avast!), which forces a program to behave differently.

Still, that’s not in avast! settings. It’s in Windows settings and how to start particular programs. Try to find those settings inside avast! configuration page or anywhere in avast! settings and you won’t find it…

Edit: sorry guys I just noticed you were faster… actually I didn’t even see second page of this thread… I just saw his answer and replied to him…

thanks for the info, i figured it was avast but it wern’t, so i’ll know what to look for next time a screen turns green !!! Sounds Like good title for new blues Brothers movie !! thanks ya’all ellwood
