For me, it’s very difficult to get ‘any’ Spybot update… their servers are not good imho.
If you’re using a local proxy it’ll be quite impossible to get an update.
After that, a lot of times we get ‘sumcheck’ errors… :-[ :-\
Spybot lack of updates is it’s weakness. But Anti Vir update server is worst, the server will be clog in the morning and okay in the evening. Some low traffic, : but at least Anti Vir gets daily updates like avast! ;D
There are LOTS of questions in their net-integration forums
about the “new” Spybot 1.4; best to wait awhile and let
others be the unofficial Beta testers. Told “Corrine” on 1 of
the Ad-aware forums I was going to wait awhile for the
problems of the “new” Ad-aware SE 1.06 to work them-
selves out before considering installing the “new” edition .
I guess I’m lucky. I can’t recall having problems getting Spybot definitions updates. True, it doesn’t seem to update very often.
But, while I think very highly of Spybot, I’ve waited to update to 1.4. That’s routine for me; Avast is about the only “critical” app which I immediately update when a new version comes out.
I plan to install it soon, though … 1.4 is impatiently sitting in my downloads folder. ;D
Why download it if you don’t intend to install it?
Waiting is fine, if there are problems with the 1.4 release then patches/updates will correct this; this makes your 1.4 version sitting in downloads redundant and you will have to download it again.
I have been using S&D 1.4 for a little while now with no apparent problems.
Well, DavidR, that’s just how I do things. I don’t have a problem with it.
I habitually download an update to a good app (yes, with the intention of installing it), though that doesn’t mean I’ll install as soon as I download. In the (usually unlikely) event another, corrected download is required, well, so be it. No problem. Not like I’m running out of disk space, and with broadband, downloading isn’t exactly a hardship to be put off until necessary. Even OpenOffice (about 65MB) downloads in a flash - well, almost. (My sympathies to those on dial-up. I remember those looong downloads.)
But, different strokes for different folks. I remember Archie Bunker and Mike Stivic arguing over whether one should put on a sock, then the shoe, and then repeat for the other foot, or instead put on both socks and then both shoes. I just like to put on both socks … and when I’m ready, put on my shoes! ;D
