Spybot S&D

Can I use Spybot search and Destroy(with immunize and teatimer) together with avast. Is teatimer such annoying think like ad-watch in ad-aware.I don’t want to ask me every time when installing new software like ad-watch.The strangest thing is that I use mainly firefox ,have spyware blaster and spybot immunize (no script in firefox) and it’s not the first time I see IE tracking Cookie in my system(Ad-aware found it).
If I turn on Permanent Internet Explorer immunity(well it’s turned on just like spyware blaster ),
teatimer(IS it annoying) and
Permanently running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer

And if I run microsoft antispyware beta do I nedd teatimer and Permanently running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer
Thank you

With Avast and a food firewall (bot properly setup) there is no need to run teatimer.
If you want, you can have it running without a problem, but it may slow down your system.

Guess you wanted to say without a problem.
Note:Currently I don’t use Microsoft Antispyware Beta.

yup  Typo

AdAware and tracking cookies is in my mind such a waste of effort, it is far to sensitive and such a low/negligible risk it doesn’t warrant worrying about. Many cookies could track what you view and as such could be classed as tracking cookies, I would suggest that you disallow third party cookies (those that don’t originate at the site you are viewing), the only real way to totally eliminate tracking cookies is to disable all cookies. That is unrealistic and likely to affect your browsing experience.

I have the search for negligible risks in AdAware disabled and I don’t get any tracking cookie warnings.

For cookie control, I’ve found CookieWall easier to use than any other program.
You can also download it from

Enjoy.

I can\t open the site but i’ve installed Microsoft Antispyware beta.Think it will stop any further infection.Hope it will be free after 12.31

i think itll be fine  Neron

Hi Neron.

One more advice from me here. The best way to go is never put Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware or SpyBlaster to automatic update, but make the updates manually yourself, if you know or are fairly sure your system to be clean. This to avoid malware restores through the automatic restore possibilties of for instance SpyBlaster.

greets,

polonus

Polonus,
Why do you say that the automatic update is not a good thing?
Why automatic update will mess malware restoration?
I’d like to understand… ::slight_smile:

Hi Tech,

I had this information here on this forum from FIXER. He said that
SpywareBlaster was known to restore malware back that was on a compromised system after is was cleansed in another fashion.
Where he had this strong advise, I do not know? We should ask FIXER this? After I have read this I do the updates manually.
If it is a myth, the myth is from somewhere else. Somebody or more likely FIXER respond to this your question?!

greets,

polonus

I still can’t understand… Maybe Fixer could say something. SpywareBlaster does not even have a restore option. He could be thinking on SpyBot but, even in this case, automatic updates are not automatic restore.
I won’t say it’s a myth. It seems that is a wrong assumption.

polonus
Automatic updates refer to updates of the program. Not restoring your sytem.

Wait wait wait polonus, where did you get the idea that I said that malware could be restored from automatic updates? ???

I recheck a topic that we discuss about that if you install Spyware Blaster when you still had a spyware on your PC it’ll stay there, but I don’t see any post that I talk about something like that, I know there was another topic about Spyware Blaster but I can’t find it at the moment, I apologize if I confuse you Polonus :-\ : CLick here
