if this is an off topic subject than im sorry for the post,but here goes anyway,ive been using spybot s&d for a long time without problems but in the past week when i open it up and check for updates there are some available,i click download updates(tried every server)and a error box pops up saying cant open avi?ive uninstalled and reinstalled still same problem. ???

What OS are you using? Their update servers frequently have problems.

Do you have the latest version of Spybot v1.4? If not get it here.

Hello bri,

This could be a conflict between program version and update. Check for latest version. It could also be that the update server is busy, then you have to try later.
Did you uncheck the update boxes again?

I used to get checksum errors when using the USA servers for, you can change the download server and see if you get a better or less busy server. Try changing servers and see if that helps.

i found the problem,i had vista transformation pack 2.0 installed and when i uninstalled it i was able to download spybot updates with no problem,must have been a conflict with the 2,thanks people,bri

Partially because it is the only program that is 100% free and has no other revenue source. Lavasoft sells other things but Adaware SE and Microsoft has enough money to pay for server hosting. The update problems are most apparent after new updates are released. Trying different servers or waiting a day or two fixes the problem.

I usually wait for the days to past by before updating on SpyBot-S&D. I have too had this problem.

My suggestion: be sure you are downloading updates from Safer Networking #1 or #2 servers. I never had any problems with it.

My suggestion: when you don’t get the updates at first time, download entire update file:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe

I agree, Safer Networking works perfectly fine for me as well, but I kinda go to #2 a bit more if its okay. ;D
