Hello folks! One of my friend wants to know if Spybot & SpywareBlaster is any good if decide not to install any of these two antimalware and go for MalwareBytes’ Antimalware Free Version alongside the current antivirus program installed. I know for a fact that SpywareBlaster can be installed alongside with your existing antivirus program. Also can Spybot be installed and work alongside with an existing antivirus program currently installed? My friend also wants to know if any of these two antimalware program Spybot and SpywareBlaster is widely used and if it is an excellent program like Malwarebytes Antimalware? Every person has their own preference of which antimalware/antivirus they want to install

I am not such a highly computer security expert so I came here for assist! Much assist is greatly appreciated

According to our local malware removal experts mblaster is not needed with new browsers

SpyBot was good in the old days but not anymore … check any malware removal forum and none use it anymore. Today they all start with Malwarebytes and then diagnostic log is next

Thanks Pondus for your reply! Just making sure and wanting to know about Spybot and SpywareBlaster and it’s usability in this current years and it’s effectiveness. Yeah I have seen users like us using MBAM and etc diagnostic tools to solve malware issues. My friend doesn’t have much knowledge about computer security. I will tell my friend to use MBAM Free Edition alongside SAS Free Edition and most popular antivirus software such as AVG or Avast these two antivirus software I trust it with my life and experience and two of the best

Thanks for this link Pondus! OMG!!! Shocking review :o !!!

SAS is not bad, and they are member of VirusTotal so they get all samples there

Yeap SAS is pretty good too also I trust it with my life and experience been using it for years and years best of the best like MBAM also their support is pretty good to like MBAM, AVG, and Avast. Trustworthy is pretty good too.

I use SpywareBlaster. There is no conflict with any security programs, as it is not a resident program at all. It immunizes the Windows OS from many avenues of attack, which persists after exiting the program.

How long have you been using SpywareBlaster? Is it good? Have you used Spybot?

I’ve used SpywareBlaster since 1995 or so, on a Win95 machine at the time, and then updating to this WinXP and the Win7 laptop. It does offer only immunization protection and is not an antivirus/ scanning tool at all.

I used SpyBot Search & Destroy on Win95 and WinXP, but had it’s active component disabled. It served it’s function that way well. The active component can interfere with program installs (writes to register as a example). I no longer have it installed. It has been updated several time since I used it, and I didn’t like the new version.

Personally I feel that SpywareBlaster is very dated now and its updates aren’t that frequent. There are better tools and they don’t use your HOSTS file.

SpywareBlaster 5 was released on March 02, 2013. In recent months, immunization updates have been less regular. It’s never added to the hosts file, but has a facility to back it up.

It does add to the Restricted Sites for MSIE, and immunizes against ActiveX CSLIDs that have been found to be malware. I don’t use the cookie immunization for Firefox, as I use Firefox extensions for that.
