"spyware Doctor"I installed as well as Avast 4

I have recently installed Avast4, and “avast! virus cleaner Tool”, the same page also recommended Spyware Doctor & Registry Mechanic, these I downloaded as well.
Spyware doctor is regularly telling me that I have low risk but I have tracking cookies(13 infections),Adware.Advertising(6 infections) & Spyware.Known_Bad_Sites(2 infections), yet Avast4 tells me all is well as well as the cleaner Tool, is there something I’m not doing ,re Avast! or do I pay them the money they want to fix the problem?
I also downloaded Microsoft “how totroubleshoot an error when you run the Microsoft windows Malicious software removal Tool” They also tell me all is well no virus found. would appreciate a little help here ta.

Somone with same problem. Solved

THE WEB SITE THAT RECOMMEND YOU TO DONLOAD IT IS A COMMERCIAL WEB SITE AND THERE GOAL IS EARNING MORE AMORE MONEY SO DONT BELIVE THEM

tracking cookies(13 infections)
THEY ARE NOT A BIG THREAT THEY TRY TO KNOW A GENERAL INFORMATION AND YOU CAN REMOVE THEM FOR FREE WITH ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE
Spyware.Known_Bad_Sites
SOME WEBSITE YOU HAVE VISITED AND MAY BE DOWNLOAD TO YOUR COMPUTER SOME VIRUSES BUT MAYBE NOT AND AVAST TELL YOU NO THING I.E. NOTHING!!SO DONT WORRY
Adware.Advertising
MAY BE RIGHT BUT SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY CAN REMOVE THEM FOR FREE TAKE MY ADVICE AND DO WHAT I TELL YOU ;) I HAS THIS WORRY BEFORE A THREE YEARS AGO BUT AFTER THAT I KNOW AVAST IS A VERY GOOD AV AND IT CAN PROTECT YOU.

Welcome Therese

Spyware Doctor is not very good and I would remove it and that goes for Registry Mechanic as well as well.

Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM) then install it then update it and run a Quick scan:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

MBAM works nicely with avast!

Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what applications on your system are vulnerable:

Thanks for all replies. I will be removing and working on suggestions given. Have to go offine (we have a laptop and are in a motorhome travelling our lovely South Island) I will probably be taking and acting on the last comment. will let you all know the outcome. thanks Therese (Probably a greatful Kiwi.)[qu

Hi, what site did you download Avast from?
(In general, it’s usually best to download any software direct from the vendor.)

Concur with above comments.
Did you have any other AV installed before Avast?
(Important to remove it.)

MBAM is an effective antispyware (etc) demand scanner. Good detection/removal. Recommended.

I was born in the South Island. Very scenic. Darned Cold!

Isn’t Avast! Virus Cleaner out of date? ???

Tarp 57,
I downloaded from Avast after I had googled the site, for the address.
You lot may have guessed I am learning very slowly how to be computer literate.
I am not sure re the sight I will have a look at History and find out.
and Can someone tell me if the “cleaning tool” is outof date, Looks like I may have to get rid of that too?
By the way The North Island is colder have lived in Auckland (was born there) give me Sth Island cold any day. Regards Therese

Sorry meant to let you know that my AV was Norton has been them for 4yrs. But as there system clutted up my computer I removed it before I set up Avast! My computer has been running noticbly faster than before since avast has been setup.

The Avast virus cleaner (A standalone application that looks a bit like a purple genie bottle) is pretty much out of date…still useful for some older malwares, and since it’s incorporated into the main program, there really isn’t much point in having it. No uninstall; just a simple delete. Here is a list of what it removes. Last updated May’07.
Norton can be a right pig to remove completely. A lot of the current A V’s (Avast included) make a standalone uninstaller, for use if problems are encountered, or if the uninstaller isn’t very “clean” (like Norton. It can leave quite a bit behind.)
At some stage it would be wise to run the Norton Removal Tool (from MajorGeeks, a reputable and comprehensive site with lots of anti-malware tips and tricks) and run it.

I definitely second using MBAM as a secondary or demand scanner.
Auckland isn’t really the North Island, AFAIK. It’s a mythical place rumoured to exist North of the Bombay hills. ;D

They just want u to purchase their software
cookies are not very big threats, some are even useful.

Trust Avast !!

they just want to better their products and earn money and spyware doctor have a lot of false positive(i analyse files)and detect no any virus in them 8)

Hi to all and sorry its been long but we have been out and about our lovely south Island and depending where you are wireless contact just not there. Oh and Tarq57 and others we nearly got snowed in and no wasnt’ as cold as north in and very real Auckland.
To business at hand
after uninstalling all above and deleting others I downloaded Malwarebytes "anti Malware,
Results where good and clicked to the fact that had better defrag as well All is much faster and generally working well with Avast a vast improvement (excuse the pun).
I went to the Secuna link but couldnt do that scan as they needed me to download another setup (name evades me at present) and I wasnt sure about it. If someone knows what that is and know do I need it?
Have Got the major geeks link and am slowly reading their very imformative stuff When I get on line that is, the aim there is to rid my computer of norton stuff left on it.
So thanks again to all
Therese

Hi Theresa.
When you say “results were good…” does this mean there was nothing detected by MBAM?

Defragging once a month or so is a good idea.
Disk cleanup once (or more) a fortnight is a good idea too. (ATF Cleaner by Atribune or Ccleaner by Piriform are both good and popular.)

The Secunia OSI (Online system inspector, I think) would have wanted to install its activex control, which is normal for this type of scan, and yes, it’s ok. The scan would take just a few minutes.
The PSI is an installable program that monitors the software status of your system. A larger selection of software is examined. Both Either highly recommended.

The Norton Removal tool requires no special handling. It can be simply downloaded and run (follow the prompts) and should only take one to three minutes. (It will appear for a time when you first double click it that nothing is happening. Don’t worry.)When it’s finished it should present a list of “stuff” it removed. No further action is required, normally.

I’m bloody freezing. This is global warming, I guess. The Antarctic chill is being blown up our way, and I guess the South Pole is warming up as a consequence. ;D

Hi Tarq57
There has not been anything detected by Avast or MBAM.
It appears I am in the clear. But the norton thing will have to be sorted as I notice a bit left of folders from Norton.
I was keen to download the norton thing from “major Geeks” but was confronted with all there how to do it stuff. I will have another go. Interesting reading though.

How do you put one of those lovely faces all I get on ie smily face is  8).

I will be changing my name as have not been comfortabe with the one I have supplied.

Here is the link to the download page again.

In the picture I have indicated what to click on. Shortly after clicking one of those four, a download dialogue box will open. Save the file to the desktop. Once it’s downloaded, close other running programs (browsers, email etc) and double-click the file. Then wait.
The ;D smiley is the fourth one from the left above, and can also be created by inserting a colon ; then a capital d.

Sorry I got your name wrong. I see there is no “a” on the end of it.

@Therese

The lovely faces I think you are refeing to are called avatars and are only permitted when you reach 20 posts due to past bad spammer experiences.

Thanks for the info and support so far am glad with this forum.
I am a little embarrased as I have read what I have written on the forum lately I see that the faces I have been unable to use are now in use ::slight_smile:
So thanks again and am about to use your link again re Norton cleanup thanks
I was playing around with it this avo and started to download a huge registry cleanup system but as I read your last thread Tarq53 I realised my mistake ??? its all good.
Will let you know results thanks again.
