spyware

waheeeeeey,I’m now a Junior member,LOL.

Anyway,down to business.

Ive failed to mention in my earlier posts Ive got a Laptop with Vista Home Premium and running Avast Home Free Version and Commodo Firewall.
What I need now is another 2nd line of defence in Spyware protection, any recommendations?

Also since Xmas I was given a Netbook,Windows XP on it Avast Home, and thats it.

So I’m needing reccomends for a Firewall for this and Anti Spyware for both…

Hope it all made sense?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

you already got what’s needed on one laptop, do the same on the other one  avast is an anti-spyware too, and CIS def+ (=HIPS) is also considered an anti-spyware protection. You got a firewall in it, works with XP/Vista/Seven, you’re done.

Logos do you think he can add a MBAM :)?

Hi he can add a MBAM free non-resident and a SAS. He also could have ImmunetProtect. This is a good layered protection,

Hope the SAS won’t slow down his laptop
I have never tried vista even once I guess if his processor is fast enough he won’t even feel that SAS exist

It is a netbook, so possibly even more of a take care on resources. However, SAS isn’t high on resources and if using the free version it is on-demand scans only, so resources would be used during scans only.

RAM is possibly more of an issue than CPU even for those tiddler Atom CPUs.

that’s right I didn’t notice that was a netbook, so yes resource can be an issue. The thing is its hard to tell because when you open task manager it always seem that programs like Avast5 or CIS are not resource demanding at all, but they are know to use kernel processes as well, I guess Process Monitor could tell and they can be a hog on small systems.

the free version, non-resident yes.

I don’t know if avast 5 uses much in the way of kernel processes, I can remember either Vlk or Igor mentioning that whilst using kernel processes to mask the amount of RAM used there is a down side, if there is a problem with a kernel process it results in a crash. So I think that they would be exercising restraint in any kernel processes.

 thanks all of you…now running Avast Home,Commodo Firewall and Spybot Search and Destroy on both my Computers and I’m pleased to report both are clean and clear of any Bugs…spot on advice yet again folks…Cheers… ;D Just need to update my profile to show what I’m using Computer wise then I’m not having to repeat myself LOL…Thanks again Folks.

You’re welcome.

I like Zone Alarm and Avast - they play nicely together these days.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is better than Spybot. Also free.

You can use Immunet also

It is light and simple
