Just updated to the latest SpywareBlaster 4.1 and Avast spotted a W32:Trojan-Gen. Have previously installed from same copy without problem. False positive maybe? File sent to Avast.
Same problem here. Just update the spywareblaster database and then everything should be good. It worked for me.
It appears that the reported virus in the sbautoupdate.exe file is a false positive and it has also been reported in another avast forum. No doubt the avast team will respond soon, most likely with a fix in the next VPS update.
The advice to update the database (presumably manually) does not involve the sbautoupate.exe file and is a circumvention for those who do have the auto update facility. It does not “fix” the problem but just avoids it and the same problem would occur in a regular avast file scan until the avast team provide a VPS update.
Whilst the manual update doesn’t use this file, if you open the SB folder it will alert on the file which is present in the free SpywareBlaster 4.1 version.
VT has 7/33 detections, most are suspicious or generic, signatures, W32:Trojan-Gen of avast and G-Data http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/6f6297de672b34dc4110f2ec20f0f5ea.
So I would say it is reasonably clear it is a false positive.
Corrected with VPS update 080626-1.
