SPYWAREBLASTER NOT DETECTING FF BROWSER ANYMORE

I know it’s completely off topic but latest version of SpywareBlaster is not detecting latest version of FF anymore. I’m on Win XP pro SP2. I deleted and created a new profile two days ago in order to tweak up FF (and it worked) so I don’t want to uninstall it. I rather uninstalled SpywareBlaster cleanly, rebooted, then reinstalled it with the same problem. I also tried renaming the registry.dat file in Documents & settings with no success at all. Can somebody help? :

SpywareBlaster should allow a way to show installed Firefox on non-default folders or even the Portable Firefox… It does not detect them…

You’re right but so far I was OK and getting protected on both browsers FF and IE. FF is my default browser (SetBrowser…). So far, all of a sudden, I got no protection on FF. How do you value SpywareBlaster? Is it worth keeping when you use mainly FF?

Well… The most protection is needed on IE and SpywareBlaster protects IE. It won’t harm to be there and to be updated.
If you use FF, there are other security filters/extensions that can help (and they do not protect IE).

Mine is detecting my firefox 2.0.0.4 Unless you are using a different version, alpha/beta perhaps ?
You could consider the FEBEs extension which should save your profile amongst other things and you can restore that after reinstall.

My firefox is installed on my D drive so it isn’t in the default folder. However, the firefox profiles are usually in the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder so are you saying that too is in a different location ?

That may well be correct but you also implied the same thing for the normal firefox.

I’m using SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 free edition (the normal one). It doesn’t detect my normal FF 2.0.0.4 anymore, but it’s there as my default browser. This was detected after the last definitions (SpywareBlaster) update, yesterday. Before, I had no problems!

As a general rule of thumb, I’m finding more and more freewares having so-called “bugs” after major or minor updates. This is disturbing as you never know when you’re getting unprotected :-[

Well all I can say is I have done the same update as you, have SB 3.5.1, firefox 2.0.0.4 installed in a non-default location and I don’t experience that problem.

The link you gave is 8 days old and only three posts of people that are effected, so it doesn’t appear to be that wide spread.

Have you tried the FEBE (Firefox Extension Backup Extension) which will backup your existing extensions and profiles if you wish, save it (backup data) to a different location. Then you can attempt a clean install of firefox, install the FEBE extension and see if SB recognises it and then try to restore the FEBE backup.

It does not detect ‘normal’ FF with profile in a non-default path and it does not detect Portable FF.
I have one computer with Portable FF and another with a default profile path (this last is detected by SB).

Just to let you know I solved the problem by doing a clean install of FF. I tried FEBE but it saved only less than half the extensions and no bookmarks. I’m working on it actually. FF is also faster now. Thanks to David again.

Though I’m surprised FEBE didn’t do what it said on the tin, in the options it should save bookmarks (it did mine) and I think it got all my extensions even its own FEBE 5.0 one which is real handy as I wouldn’t have to go on-line to install it in order to be able to use the FEBE Restore function.

There are 5 situations:

Firefox in default path + profile in default path: SB detects this.
Firefox in default path + profile in a non-default path: I never tested this.
Firefox in a non-default path + profile in default path: SB detects this.
Firefox in a non-default path + profile in non-default path: SB seems not to detect this.
Portable Firefox: SB does not detect it.

I have 3 and 5. I hope I make myself clear.

As I told you, I solved the problem by doing a clean installation of FF with the profile name as default as it should be. This solved the problem. Previously, FF was in the default path, the profile too but the name was changed (actually I created another profile by using the wizard using under right-clicking the shortcut in the Start menu under target and adding -p to firefox.exe:it messed up SB!) to utilisateur par défault (in French). SB didn’t take it.
