SQL question [resolved]

Hi Everyone
I am doing an install on a Windows 2003 Server running SQL 2000. During the install I get an error that says the following:

Couldn’t locate SQL server <server_name>\avast.
You have specified incorrect SQL server name or login.
Do you want to continue?

I assume if I choose No then it wont work.
I am using the sa account with proper password.
I have a couple other active databases running on this server, does this matter?

Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Found the problem

When installing on the same server with the SQL on it, the server name must be localhost…
Might want to add that in the manual in the installation section

anyway for me to delete this post so everyone doesn’t know I’m a real n00b?

I don’t believe you can delete the thread, but you can Modify the posts and your Original Title ‘newbie with SQL {Resolved]’ or something like that.

put something like ‘Edit: intentional deletion’ problem resolved, etc. in the body of the original post and less in the others.

I can edit mine after you and we will be the only ones who will know ;D ;D

There must not be the name of the SQL instance (the \avast). Unless you have previously installed a SQL instance with that name, of course…
