St00pid new user question, buuuuut...

How can I get the mail scanner to automatically delete/vault incoming viruses. Right now, it prompts for each and every one and I can’t find a switch to tell it to vault them all by default.

Domo.

No, only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Or you can use Silent Mode:

Left click the ‘a’ blue icon.
It will start On-access protection

Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No. This will send the file (email) to Chest.

Do the same for the and Outlook/Exchange plugin.
The answer Yes in Silent Mode keeps the virus in the file or into the message (attach) and continue the scanning. You can’t configure ‘delete the infected file’ in the Home version.

You might want to make that a bit more intuitive for the users.

I am a consultant and administer a couple of ISP’s. Currently I recommend Grisoft AVG because if it’s ease of use and it is/was the best free one out there. However, seeing as how I’ve been seeing a lot of virus originated e-mails that your software pre-disinfected before sending it out, I thought I’d check out your product.

You may consider having some kind of a “do this for all future viruses” checkbox when displaying the infected warning. I know that if I found it difficult to find the “shut-up” switch w/o having to studdy a manual, my customers sure as hell won’t have the patience. laughs

Thx.

AVG simply is not the best freeware out there. Just check it’s detection rate and check back on avast! detection rate. Configurability is something that we can not even talk about in here if we want to compare these two antiviruses. And I’m not telling that just because I use avast!, but because it’s simply the true.

Also this line you wrote:
