Stack Overflow

Impressed by favourable reviews, I’ve tried to install Avast 4.6 from 3 different sources and get a “Stack Overflow” message each time.

Welcome here!

Please, can you post detailed particulars about your problem?

Will this help? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11324.0

I see below your post: "
AMD Duron1.3 / 256Mb Ram / Win98se updated / Firefox 1.0.1 / Thunderbird 1.0 / Ad-aware / Spybot Search & Destroy / Win Patrol / AVG 7.289 / Avast 4.6 / Fastmail.fm /

Don’t keep 2 antivirus on your machine.

When exactly do you get this error message?

Yes, I should have been more specific. The error occurs right at the start of the installation process, just after accepting the eula.

I know I shouldn’t have 2 antiviruses - and I won’t have if I manage to install Avast!

What operating system are you using? Can you quote the exact error message you’re getting?

I don’t think this helps - the message occurs in entirely different circs. Thanks all the same

Win98se updated

It’s a smallish windows window, in a win 3.1 font, which says “Stack overflow”. I’ll have to try the installation again to be more precise …

Exact details:

The error message occurs right after accepting the licence agreement, in the form of a smallish white window with the text:

Program Error
stack overflow

and a Close button. On pressing this, the avast! instal program ends.
I should add that the 2nd antivirus program wasn’t running at the time.
And that avast! installation works fine on another machine - with a PII and the same version of Windows.

Hi all,
I found a cool progam on western digital called disk lifeguard…i think, anyways it copies your hard drive and it works perfect…accept some avast things didnt copy and i tried to reinstall it and got that buffer overfow thing.
I deleted the avast program folder and reinstalled again and that worked ok.
hope that helps.

Thanks Cartel, but I’m not copying a disk, I’m simply trying to instal Avast! And it’s Stack not buffer overflow.
