This is the interface to the avast settings, context menu, on-access scanner settings, etc. you should leave it on. The standard protection will run but that interface is used/required in other things, I simply can’t fathom why you would disable the avast icon and interface.
Because I don’t want my system tray littered with un-necessary icons that so many applications add.
I did find the system tray executable and launched it. Determined that it uses minimal memory resources and does provide access to the resident scanning options so I’ve re-enabled it to startup with Windows.
Thanks David, I am aware of that feature. Its not just the “eye clutter” but also the resource utilization of unnecessary startup applications.
Just to test the resources used by avast, I went back and installed all the resident shields. I’m amazed by how little resources all these shields use. I was also happy to see that there doesn’t appear to be any performance degredation by enabling all the shields.
That said, all shields are now running and everything seems to be working great.
