Standard Shield not compatible with Globe Digital TV Software

I Installed avast 4.6 4 days ago and it worked just fine.

Today I discovered that avast’s standard shield causes a problem with the proprietary Globe Digital Tuner Software of my KNC1(=Typhoon) DVB-S PCI Satellite Tuner Card.

Every Time I opened the Teletext Window of Globe Digital, the CPU Load increased from 30% (SAT TV viewing) up to 100% within 2 seconds and my desktop became nearly inoperable. After closing the teletext window with some difficulties the situation went normal at once.

Now i have disabled the Standard Shield permanently (by the way: how can I re-activate it for test purposes?), but I am not content.

What protection do I miss without the Standard Shield?

Is there any better solution for my problem? I must add that normally starting the teletext window causes an increase in CPU Load from 30% to more than 50% which, in my opinion, is impropriate.

Thanks. Tollhans

Without standart shield you are not protected at all (almost)! So, as soon as you can press start button in the resident providers settings in standart shield tab (you need to press more details to see it).

Besides, are you sure it is avast’s fault? What firewall you have, or other resident protection (antispyware etc.)?

Standard shield is the most important protection.
Just add that application to the exclusion list.

THX. I’ll try. tollhans

Well, first it’s necessary to find out what the Standard Shield is scanning (i.e. what files the TV application is accessing) - for example using the “Last scanned” item in avast! On-access console, or by turning on the “Show detailed info on performed action” option. Of course, Standard Shield has to be active for that.
Then, it’s possible to add the location(s) into the list of exclusions.

Done!

And special thanks to Igor. “Last scanned” showed a log file provided by a teletext routine, which was continuously updated due to a software bug (I assume).

Anyway, now it’s excluded from supervision.

Fine forum, fine folks!

You could add the log file of the last scanned to the Standard Shield exclusions, Customize…, Advanced and add the path and fileneame to the list.
