Standard shield provider screws up Vista 32

Hi!

I found some of my problems with Vista Home Premium are related to the standard Shield Provider. These are:

  • Missing System Settings Menu (its just empty)
  • File misshandling (installed an application but several files of the root fdirectory were not installed)

Problems disappear when disabling the Provider.

However, these problems first showed up on my new Intel C2D system. On my old rig based on Athlon the Scanner made no problems at all.

Specs:
C2D 6750
Gigabyte P35 DS3
4GB DDR2 800
NVidia 8800 GTS 640

I don’t know how that could be related to avast! alone but one thing crossed my mind. 4GB of RAM and 32bit version of Vista. Thats a no go. For problem free usage of 4GB you need Vista x64…

Hmmm… I have 3Gb RAM on a Vista 32bits system… never thought it will have a limit to RAM on 32bits systems… ???

Thanks Rejzor.

I know that Vista 32 can’t use 4GB but with the current RAM prices the second kit was a must

However I don’t see how the 4GB could possibly be responsible for the described effects…

One thing that changed besides MoBo/CPU is the harddisk which is the same as before but is now using an AHCI controller. I think I read somewhere about some users having troubles with AHCI under Vista…
