Start up Firefox faster using Firefox Preloader!

Hi users of Firefox browsers,

IE starts up faster than Firefox because parts of it already start up when you start up your computer as
explorer is integrated into the OS.
To also preload certain parts of the Firefox browser we have Firefox Preloader,
Firefox Preloader is a utility that is designed to load parts
of Mozilla Firefox into memory before it is used to improve the its startup time.

I don’t know if slowing down your boot to speed up firefox loading is a fair trade off. I only start firefox once per day normally. Unless like today I have hat to reboot after the avast program update or update of FF add-ons.

Hi DavidR,

The solution might no longer be actual while the tool is archaic actually, and in the mean time the browser has lost a lot of the old annoying slow starting problems. The new Minefield is actually a lot faster. but I had to drop it due to errors in the latest nightly build of Minefield, and went back to the normal 3.04 stable version due to a Minefield launcher error cascading all sorts of pop up windows initially inside the browser. I think the developers became aware of Eddy’s rant against Firefox ;D and unwillingly created an affirmation of his view of things :-X

Another downside of the pre-loader is that you need to remember to unload Firefox prior to getting (or allowing) Firefox to update itself when a new point release is available.

On my machine Firefox is lighting fast. Vista’s SuperFetch preloads Firefox at boot up and it opens up in 2 seconds or less. Seriously it opens just as fast as IE 8. For example Photoshop CS4 also loads in around 3 seconds infact every single program that i use often is lightning fast at starting up thanks to SuperFetch. So personally i cannot really complain about Firefox starting up slowly.

@Polonus: Which Minefield version are your running ? I have the 3.05pre x64 version and i would switch to it as my main browser immediately if there was a x64 version of Adobe Flash. Unfortunately there still isn’t one. Wake up Adobe ! ::slight_smile:

How? Automatically? ???

Hi darth_mikey,

I have succeeded in putting it back into my Minefield program folder from a zip file and the latest nightly trunk build is now active with some essential extensions enforced. I like to experiment with firekeeper with the Snort rules as a very attentive IDS inside Minefield. Mine is: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20081129 Minefield/3.1b3pre ID:20081129034849

Yep. Since it’s one of the most used programs on this machine it get’s preloaded at boot up thanks to SuperFetch …

For me too… but this Superfetch is doing nothing in my computer… Do I need to configure anything?

Sorry Tech i haven’t noticed your post till now. Don’t know how you have it set up on your machine but yes it is possible to change settings for SuperFetch.

You’ll learn what you need to know here(lot’s of nice tutorials for vista here):

CLICK

To Allow Both Boot and Program Files to Preload -
NOTE: This is the default setting for Superfetch if you want to undo any changes.

If I have changed nothing, this should be applied… anyway, I’ll download the reg file while I were on Vista. Now on XP SP3
