Start Up Problem

Hello to all…

I logged on this morning and had a problem. Windows loaded fine, but the only tray icons that came up were ad-watch and the Avast! tray icon with a red x on it. It’s like everything was frozen.
I finally had to unplug the computer and start over, then everything loaded fine. I ran Avast!, SpyBot, and Ad-Aware–all were clean.
I was on the computer last night and had no problems. Also, I ran CCleaner before shutting down.

Can you advise me what happened or what I need to do? This is the first time in months that anything like this has happened…

Thank you for any help!

Good Morning CoJo:
Since windows doesn’t load the star-up modules in the order each time, I can happen on occasion. When it happens to me I do the same as you. Shut down and restart. That usually cures it. Since I load lots of goodies, I’ve even had it once where I had to do that twice. Just like you, my system is clean.
Your puter probably assumed you wanted to waste some extra time this morning. ;D

You checked and cleaned your system from malware, that was a good thing to do. Since everything is working now, I would say don’t worry about what happend. It was probably just a bit that went wrong somehow. Could be caused by a small fluctuation in the power supply.

Thank you Bob and Eddy!! I really appreciate your fast responses

Now I can enjoy my day and not be worried that there is something wrong with my “baby”–strange how attached I’ve become to this little critter!

Hope y’all have a good day…

And like a baby, a computer needs to be handled with love and attention ;D

Eddy, that’s for sure! These forums have taught me so much about taking care of my baby. And, usually, in terms that I understand…
When I was working we were not allowed to try and fix anything and I understand the reason for it. But when I got my first home computer, it was tough learning just what I needed to do–and not panic and download every single program someone suggested! :-[
It took that reformat to teach me not to rush into things, but to Read and study and then decide.
It was a very expensive lesson :frowning:
