starting avast

Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security

I downloaded the free version of avast and when I opened it I couldn’t get it to start. It said “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.”

So I tried to reinstall and the same thing came up…any advice???

Well, some more information is needed.

What OS are you using?
Did you upgrade from avast 4.8?
Was or is any other security software installed (Norton, McAffee, Zone-Alarm Firewall etc…)?
Computer Specs?

Did you Restart your computer before trying to open Avast 5 for the first time?

Why I Ask…

When I Installed Avast 5 On My Laptop

  1. Avast 5 Installed - & - Automatically Updated!
  2. Waited for my laptops hard drive light to settle down.
  3. Double Clicked the Desktop Icon to Open Avast 5 … Avast 5 Didn’t Open! :o
    So…
  4. Restarted Laptop!
  5. Waited for laptop to settle after the Restart.
  6. Double Clicked the Desktop Icon to Open Avast 5 … Avast 5 Did Open! :smiley:
  7. Was then able to Register my Avast 5 8)

When it came time to install Avast 5 on my Desktop computer… I just made sure I missed out number 3 ;D
