Starting DOS software problem.

I’ve had Avast! for quite a while, but now suddenly after a reinstallation of Windows, whenever I run a program which opens a DOS box to start, the window closes at once and nothing more happens.
If i open a Command box and run the program from there I get the following message.

C:\Programfiler\Alwil Cannot open The file I try to run

Anybody got the same problem/a solution?

NB: Programfiler is Norwegian for Program Files

I’ve tried all the workarounds in http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=6991.0 , but none of them work…
I have the newest Avast! release.

Normally when the Dos box opens it is because a command was started to launch a program and the file wasn’t found, the path in the dos window is usually that were the file was supposed to be.

I don’t think that this is the same as the link you gave, since this is a very old issue and there have been a few minor and two major programs updates since then. What version of avast are you using? - the latest release version is 4.6.623.

I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

I’ve tried all of the things you suggested, but nothing worked…

I’ve even tried replacing the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files with the originals from the Windows CD…

After reinstalling Avast and then replacing the three files with originals, I only get the following error when running DOS applications through CMD:

Cannot execute Filename

Seems like there is a file missing…

Anybody who knows what this can be???
Really need help!!!
