When I started up W7 I don´t see the Avast (free v7; is running icw PC Tools firewall plus) icon in the taskbar, so I think Avast is not starting up after W7 has been started. :-[
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What avast processes are running in the Task Manager (avastSvc.exe and avastUI.exe, should be) ?
I had Panda free running, so I changed to Avast. I uninstalled it by using Revo Uninstaller.
You need to ensure that you have uninstalled it prior to installing avast ?
It may well be worth checking for remnants - Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
Hi DavidR, First of all thank you for all the help and support you gave me all ready!
Status I am in:
- I did follow up your advice to really clean the remains of earlie programs (Panda and AVG).
- I had a look via Ctr/alt/del but there was no applications or process like Avast running.
- Soluto gave me the idea that it took about 32 seconds to start up Avast.
- I deleted the Avast application by Revo Uninstaller and reinstalled it.
- I did register myself again and I am waiting for the results.
- I will report to you asap
You should never use revo to uninstall security programs, always use the windows uninstall then run the vendors correct removal tool to remove remnants, vendors removal tools are all provided in the link DavidR provided you.
Thank you all esp. Daivid and Craig! It works and my first experiences with Avast 7 are very good!
One more question to Craig… Why should I not use Revo Uninstall for this kind of programs, or am I asking to much now…
One more question to Craig... Why should not I use Revo Uninstall for this kind of programs, or am I asking to much now...security programs have protection modules...that will protect them from malware trying to disable / uninstall the program so it may see revo as malware...and the uninstall process may be f...up
so use ad/remove and the vendors uninstall tool
Thanks again! Clear!
You’re welcome.
@ CMedema
Revo is a generic uninstaller. Quite often it uninstalls shared .dll files when used to uninstall a program.
Unfortunately you wouldn’t find this out till you try to run one of the other programs that happen to use one of these shared files.
Sometimes the uses of a sledgehammer isn’t advised when trying to drive a nail into the wall. ;D
(corrected typo - thanks mchain.)

BTW, is it “installs shared .dll files when used to uninstall a program” or “uninstall a shared .dll”?
A little confused here.
Quite true, you must look and check what revo wants to uninstall before clicking remove or delete, especially when using the ‘Advanced’ option.
Is the Obit uninstaller less dangereus for innocent :-\ users like me?
I would never use a product from IObit…!!!
Besides not using an IObit product,
All generic uninstallers work the same way and can cause the same havoc if you aren’t extremely careful.
CMedema as others have mentioned already generic uninstall tools aren’t recomended and they can certainly mess things up, stick with the usuall uninstall procedure using windows remove then you can always follow up by running CCleaner for a tidy up, anything more needed imo should be done by a manual search for the product name and company name.

Actually, CMedema said that he used the Revo uninstaller and others have mentioned generic uninstall tools aren’t recommended ;D

Bob, Revo is also a generic uninstaller so i believe anything other than the windows remove is generic and imo shouldn’t be used

I believe that’s what I said in my original post.
