Hello All,

I’ve picked up a piece of malware by the name of startsear.ch

I’ve tried searching on here and didn’t find anything so apologies if this has been discussed already. This hijacks your searches in whatever browser you might use. I have all the usual ones and it has infected them all.

I’ve done a lot of research to remove it but it is a stubborn little pest that can’t be found by my Malwarebytes, S & D, Advanced System Care and Unhackme. I read it is worth trying a search and find in the registry.

I ran regedit and search for startsear.ch and found a number of reg keys. They are in the following folder:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/AVAST Software/WRC/RatingStorage/startsear.ch

Can I delete these safely and will it work? I’m reluctant to remove or edit the registry as i know it can have disastrous results!

in Mozilla Firefox:

Type about:config into URL bar.
Find: keyword.URL and change it on: google.com or whatever you like.

Then search Windows registry for startsear.ch and remove found keys.
