StartUp Guard 98/ME/2000/XP (Free)

Hi,
AceLogiX says:
Monitor your system’s auto-startup programs with this lean program. Startup Guard will inform you when new programs are added to the startup, in real time, and you can approve/disapprove the new entry. You can block worms, spyware, adware, trojans, and other virus type malicious programs that may affect your system by adding itself to run at Windows startup. It can also monitor changes to your browser home page and search page hijacks.

I have been using this “tiny footprint” program for many years on W98SE.
Whilst it has not caught anything that Avast hasn’t, it may provide an important
extra layer of protection when Avast has to end support for us golden oldies.

My regards

Sounds good. Should be in “General” though.
Already using WinPatrol on 95 → Vista.

Hi again,

I think SpyBot S & D “may” do a similar thing to WinPatrol though StartUp Guard is lean and simple.

My regards

Anyone considering this should be aware it wouldn’t be a first time some form of startup protection killed the ashDisp.exe avast icon, which is a user startup entry.

Hi,

Firstly it’s free and it’s easily removed.

Secondly it’s never caused a problem for me with Avast or any other program

Thirdly it was suggested, particularly, as an extra layer as and when Avast support ends.

Fourthly, for 98 users, when the time comes, doing nothing isn’t exactly an ideal alternative.

My regards
