After Xp has started up i can login, but after a short while the system goes down and starts up again.
This can go on for some time and eventually it keeps working.
Now i know it has something to do with the Avast program, because after terminating the program, Xp doesn’t give the startup problem any more. Reinstalling the Avast software doesn’t help.
Configuring Xp from a clean startup ends up with a working Xp and also Avast, but no blue tray icon in the task bar.
Does anyone have had the same problem or knows what to do about it?
A other virus protection program doesn’t give the problem, but isn’t as nice as Avast.
What we need to know, is did you have another antivirus on the computer before installing Avast, before this problem started?
And what was it.
Installing Avira and removing Avast may have appeared to fix the problem, but it really is just a workaround, that might be covering something up.
when i bought the pc 5 years ago i had Panda Antivirus with it.
After half a year i switched to Avast, which i use now for more than 4,5 years.
Just recent the startup problem started. So i don’t think it has something to do with my previous antivirus software.
Wouldn’t hurt to run the Panda Uninstaller. Here’s an example of one, from about the time you would have had it installed. (You should have the uninstaller appropriate to the product you were using.)
You should also download, install, update and run a scan with MBAM. As Tech said, this might be malware related.
The above steps should be ignored, of course, if you are set on formatting and reinstalling Windows.
Well your lucky yove had it for so long But a reinstall would be a good choice
Not necessarily. I see a lot of advice saying to reinstall Windows.
In my opinion, this is fairly often unnecessary, and I think it should be a last resort. When all other reasonable steps have failed. Or the forum help has dried up.
Avast forum helps usually takes quite a while to dry up completely, unless it is a clear cut case.
We could be a long way short of "last resort" measures in this case.
Of course, it's up to the OP.
