Startup problem after installation of Avast

I installed Avast Antivirus Pro.5.0.492 on my HP ProBook with Win7_Ultimate and after installing, I restart my laptop as suggested but to my utter disappointment it got hanged at the page “Window was unable to start, a recent hardware or software change…”

I got only two options, rather than the usual 4:

Start Window Normally
Launch Startup Repair.

The first option was ineffective, even after trying 2/3 time, I got stuck at the same page. I tried startup repair, but it was unable to repair window automatically. I didn’t get “Restore Window to an earlier version” here, I knew for sure that this was cause by the installation of Avast.

Luckily at last, window loads up and this dialogue appear [image]

Why? Anyone with ideas? And yeah, I don’t have any other antivirus installed on my system before. What is the best [free] antivirus for a window 7 ultimate system?

Update to avast! 9.0.2011…!!

“Avast Antivirus Pro.5.0.492” you just installed this? Obvious piracy, arrrr matey!! Just uninstall that, visit http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus-2014/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?part=dl-85737&subj=dl&tag=button and get the free home edition(it works well) or purchase pro :wink:
