steam reported as virus?

avast is updated to the latest definitions - 120205-2

i havent used steam to play anything in a week, and i dont download mods… false positive?

i certainly dont want to move SteamService.exe to the chest!

avast is set to do a quick scan nightly and a full scan every thursday.

this was found with a quick scan last night.

files:

c:\program files (x86)\ common files \steam \ steamservice.exe threat: win32:trojan-gen
c:\program files (x86)\ steam \ bin \ steamservice.exe threat: win32:trojan-gen
c:\program files (x86)\ steam \ steamerrorreporter.exe threat: win32:trojan-gen
c:\program files (x86)\ common files \ steam \ steamservice.exe threat: win32:trojan-gen

any thoughts?

i just noticed this has been reported as a false positive (i cant find a "search button IN the forums here… had to google forum posts) and was supposedly fixed after the -2 update.

im going to scan again and see if i get anything.

thank you!

this should be corrected with the latest update 05-2. I you got steam stuck in Chest from a previous wrong detection, just restore it from there.

yeah, im so sorry for the useless post, it seems i was just unlucky enough to have scheduled my scan RIGHT before the update to fix it. i rescanned after a restart and all is well, no threat found.

man that scared me though, id HATE to get a virus in steam!

thank you everyone!

AVAST, fully updated as of today, tagged another STEAM file as a virus. : (

For the future - The orange Menu bar at the top of the page and the Search button on it (see image, click to expand), that is on every page. Further out to the right there is also a quick search window that too is on each page.

The quick one out to the right is the most handy and quick as your search is executed right away. The Search button in the Menu bar takes you to the same sort of input windows, but also gives a link to the advanced search function (image2).
