Steam

Every time I try to start Steam it has to update then once it has finished a error comes up saying that a trojan hourse/ malware has been detected in my steam files, the same problem this person has http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=49186.0 Im not exactly amazing with computers so I dont really know what to do, I would really, really appreciate any help as I use my PC everyday and enjoy playing games on Steam.

Hi zedap, welcome to the forums

Please update to VPS:120205-1

This has solved some False Positive detections.

Oh awesome thanks, thought I was gunna have to do loads of complicated stuff :stuck_out_tongue: Glad its not the case.

You’re welcome

Let us know if the update solves it.

The update didn’t work however I do not know if I did the right update http://www.avast.com/en-gb/download-update I chose the top one.

You should be able to update through avast itself.

Right click the avast tray icon → Update → Engine and Virus definitions

The top one would be the right one there though.

I did the update and it still didn’t work so I reset my laptop and a pop up came up for Steam saying that I had to reinstall it, I was going to wait to ask you guys what I should but then the pop-up disappeared and Steam started running, Do you think Steam will work properly again or do you think it is temporary because it did this earlier but then it stopped working again.

I can’t say I’m afraid, I don’t use steam so I am not sure.

I would see how it goes, and whether it keeps working. If you still have issues, the other option may be a reinstall…

Hmm, Yeah you may be right

Please update your VPS to: 120205-2
Solved…??

Sorry im being a noob but what is VPS, how do I update it?

That is the name for the virus database. Updating it described in my previous post above.

Oh ok, thanks
