Still error with IE11: "IE has stopped working" with beta 2014.9.0.2013

Avast 2014 driving me crazy…

Without Avast 2014, Internet Explorer 11 runs without any problems, but with Avast 2014 it gives the error with Internet Explorer 11: “Internet Explorer has stopped working”.

  • I’ve uninstalled Avast 2014 and install it again without addons : still “Internet Explorer has stopped working” as I start IE 11.
  • I have alreday tried the step (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program (Programs and Features, Add or Remove Programs)
Select avast! and click on Uninstall/Change. then uncheck the browser protection checkbx.) : IE11 keep saying “IE 11 has stopped working” after.
  • I’ve installed the beta Avast 2014.9.0.2012 (without avast addons): still the same error
  • I’ve installed the beta Avast 2014.9.0.2013 (without avast addons): still the same error
  • I’ve uninstall IE11 from Windows, and then download a fresh IE11 and install: still same error

So I’ve installed a previous version of Avast, 8.0.1489, and this works perfectly!!!: NO error (NO message of “internet has stopped working”)
So a pevious avast is the solution, but after a while Avast ask to update, and then there will be the problem again! It updated to 2014.9.0.2006

So I’ve tested with a lot of Avast-versions:

  • Avast version 2014.9.0.2008, Internet Explorer 11 give the error (internet explorer has stopped working)
  • Avast version 7.0.1474, Internet Explorer 11 works fine
  • Avast version 8.0.1488 (virusupdates 130502-0) : IE 11 works fine
  • Avast version 8.0.1489: IE 11 works fine

So there is a bug in the 2014 version of Avast. Even with the beta .2013.
Please what can I do? Wait to the next beta update?

Can I send a log or something?

My addons: (that i have disabled)

  • WOT, WOT Helper, Canon Easy-Webprint EX, Canon Easy-Weprint Ex BHO, Canon Easy-Webprint EX, Search Helper, Groove GFS Browser helper, Windows Live ID Sign-in Helper, ebay.be, Java™ Plugin SSV Helper.

v2014.9.0.2013 is a final release/update.

Have you tried disabling the “avast online security” plug-in?
Also the AOS causes issues while IE is in “enhanced mode”.

When i install the beta 2013, i deselect all the addons. So have i to do something with “enchanced mode”? What is enchaned mode? Have I to enable or disable it?

See picture to disable Enhanced Protected Mode, if you still have problems the you can disable AOS by right clicking toolbar at the top of your browser and untick avast browser protection.

Browser protection is “not” the same as the AOS.

What is your OS?
Any other security software, firewall, anti-spyware, anti-malware?
If uninstalled how was it removed?

It is the same; that is causing confusion - the browser protection option in the installation setup = AOS browser add-on in your browser/s

You’re right. Sorry, my bad.
I knew that…duh. :-[

That said the OP stated at the top they had unticked the browser protection.

The OP might want to run the avast browser clean-up tool.
They have IMHO way too many BHO’s. ???

My OS is Windows 7.
I use malwarebytes anti-malware (standalone, not resident scan or shield, always manual scan) and the windows 7 firewall, and windows defender

But why should these programs interference? Why the previous version of Avast (Avast version 8.0.1489) works very well with these firewall, anti-malware (malwarebytes) and the current even beta doesn’t work?

IE11 was crashing for me too with AOS enabled in version 2013. However, when I disable it all is well. Even though you are not selecting the add-ons at install… have you looked under manage add-ons in IE11 to make sure avast is not still there maybe from a previous install? Go to manage add-ons and nothing in there should say avast…
