"Stinger" see a Virus in "Avast4" Folder!

A helpfull notice…

Earlier today I downloaded & ran “Stinger” version 2.4.5 (Released 19 November 2004) covering 46 virus/trojans & this saw a virus “W32/Sober” within Avast4/AshServ.exe!

I uninstalled Avast & reinstalled thinking I must of been infected some how but Stinger still showed that I was infected within the same folder!

I then noticed that there is an updated version of Stinger built on the same day (version 2.4.5.1) but now only covering 45 Virus!
Guess what - Avast4/ashServ is now not seen as a threat by Stinger!

I have the latest version of Avast Home installed:

  • Program: Already up to date
    (current version 4.5.523)
  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 0447-1)

v2.4.5.1

If you check the “History” on that page:

* 11/19/2004 Posted version 2.4.5.1 to correct an incorrect identification issue
* 11/19/2004
      Added W32/Sober.j@MM</blockquote>

That’s what affected Avast!

Hope this helps some one.

Where did you find that version ? Latest one I could find (form McAfee site) is 2.4.4.0 NOVEMBER 8th

This is the most updated version though - 2.4.5.1
(The one that does not cause a problem!)

Thanks, thank you very much… that’s really strange. If you go to McAfee official web site, all you can find is 2.4.4.0 ???

Thanks again !

Yeah, I see now… but when I typed Stinger it gave me straight link to McAfee web site with old version of the file… anyway, it’s not important any more… now, I have latest one and that’s what counts.
