Okay… Why don’t you just upgrade to Avast! 5.0???
If you don’t like it so what, it’s a antivirus that gives you security and that’s all that matters.
I TRIED IT AND I DON’T LIKE IT
Please stop screaming…!! Thanks…!

Really, it is warning you for your own benefit. Support for it will end soon.
Fact: If you didn’t like it that much then you wouldn’t care about the pop-up…
+1
ok. thanks for calming me down but I tried version 5 and simply I don’t like it. my computer is old, and its very slow in my computer.
That’s kinda surprising - because avast! 5 should be faster on slower machines than avast! 4.
What exactly is slow, and what is the machine config?
Its a pentium 4, xp, 800x600 crt monitor - it runs slow, no bootup scan option, and the new graphic interface is hard to use in this resolution.
please I love Avast but I am not going to buy a new computer only for this. I only need a way to disable this pop up upgrade check.
Believe us, version 5 should be lighter than version 4.
The support for version 4 will end soon. They need to push the last 4.8 users to upgrade.
If it can fit onto 1024x600 10 inch screen on netbook, it will fit on 800x600 as well. Because the smallest main window can be is 800x600.
As for the hardware, i’m using avast! 5 on Atom powered netbook which is in most cases far slower than any Pentium 4 at same clock. I’ve also installed avast! 5 on Athlon XP 2500+ and Pentium 4 2,4GHz. Works perfectly fine.
512MB and 1GB RAM configurations. It’s just better, faster and provides better protection.
Peter,
the point you need to consider: at some time in the relatively near future (probably by the end of this year), Avast will no longer be supporting version 4.x. And without daily definition updates, your computer will immediately become unprotected.
If avast5 doesn’t work well for you, then you’ll need to consider alternative programs. With an older P4 processor, I don’t know which one, if any, will be more palatable for you. Among free programs — which you can test out (only one at a time!) and either keep or reject — you might consider Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) or Avira’s Antivir. I realize this is the Avast forum. I, for one, am a happy avast user[who is responsible for the security of several extended-family members PCs]. I am mentioning these two alternatives, not to get into a quarrel with anyone here, but to offer you reasonable alternatives, on the basis that you have rejected avast5.
for the same reason I don’t upgraded to vista.
same thing, with new skin, making crawl old pcs.
can I suggest to leave avast 4 for users with old pcs?
You are missing something.
5 is lighter than 4.
Going from 4 to 5 and getting some kind of tragic slowdown implies some kind of problem/conflict.
When you changed from 4 to 5, did you use the Avast! Uninstall Utility to remove everything???
yes, i made a clean installation.
it runs slow. i tested it 2 times. worked good but my pc was more slow.
btw, the uninstall process from version 5 to 4 was really slow too.
For me, all uninstallation processes are slow.
