as they say: You get what you paid for.
Switching to a other av is not a solution.
They too have pop-ups/promote their other products.
Pop-up’s can be disabled in the paid versions.
Good news however is, is that avast is already testing other options for promotions en generating revenue.
It isn’t a matter of pop ups — they keep installing software that I don’t need and don’t want and that has entirely NOTHING to do with anti-virus on my machine and set it to start on log in. Totally different from an ad or a pop-up. I thought google’s spyware/software installer/update was bad, but this is even worse.
And as for the hidden cost of free stuff – they don’t offer a paid version of an antivirus solution for mac. If revenue is the problem, maybe they should start there.
Then do a clean custom install and deselect the items in the Tools section of the installation/setup. Doing subsequent program updates from the User Interface should leave those you didn’t install as they are.
