I use back2zip software to copy files to another hard drive. I noticed that when the back up is running the Avast tray Icon is rotating so I assume Avast is monitoring the back up.
I would appreciate any opinions as to whether this monitoring is necessary, whether it is slowing the back up and if it is not necessary how I switch off the scanning.
Most probably, you can disable the scanning as the ‘infected’ files (if there is any…) will be in your system before you backup…
The only problem is that when you ‘restore’ your backup you should know if it is clean or not.
To disable the scanning of Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning), left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize. Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button… You can use wildcards like * and ?
Probably you’ll want to add the folder where the backup is saved and, optionally, the temporary files it creates before the backup (partial backup), if the programs does this. Sometimes is the ‘final’ file that is just increased, increased until the backup is finished.
