Stop virus warning box interrupting on-demand scan when first virus found?

This must be a common problem but I don’t obviously see an answer anywhere.

When avast home edition finds the first virus during an on-demand scan it pops up a warning box asking what you want to do. You can tick the “don’t show this dialog next time” but you still have to wait for the first virus to be found. This basically negates the ability to run an unattended scan, and with avast usually taking MANY hours to do a full scan, means you can’t run it overnight or anything.

It seems like an obvious option that you should be able to turn this warning option off in the global settings, and for avast to only show results at the end of a scan. But why can’t you do this?

The only mention I saw somewhere was that someone was told you need the advanced interface for that, but he said he tried it and it didn’t work.

They do this. You can configure is the actions are taken only at the end of the scanning.

This is a restriction of avast 4.8 Home as that interactive requirement was a restriction of the free version.

The avast 5.0 free antivirus version has no restriction so you should download and install avast 5.0.
