Strange problem with smtp alert

I have installed smtp alert. But, with some addresses (I mean e-mails “To”) (like someone@firma.ru, ex.) e-mail alert doesn’t sending. With other e-mails (like someone@mail.ru) alert sending successfully. In this case i’m using several SMTP server’s (from different ISP). What the problem I have? This problem begins after antivirus upgrade. Please, help me with this problem. Sorry for my very BAD English.

avast certainly doesn’t discriminate with address so I would say it is similar this sort of error when sending ‘normal’ emails and not just alerts.

I too have a couple of ISPs and multiple email accounts, if I log on to one ISP and try to send email using an account linked to another ISP I get a very unhelpful error the same as you are getting. So rather than it being a bad email address what it is objecting to is you are trying to use an ISPs email servers whilst you are not logged on to that ISP.

So when you set-up the SMTP details you have to fill in the user name and password in the SMTP server requires authentication.

But these SMTP server’s don’t require authentification. And Outlook Express on same computer with same SMTP with same e-mail “from” address works fine and sending message successfully. I have another problem: on another computer test message sending successfully, but real virus alert don’t sending. These problems begans from moment to upgrade to 4.8. I think, upgrade of program was a big mistake :slight_smile: But, may be a desicion of these problem?

I’m only recounting my experience and I don’t know many ISP that will let you use their email servers without authentication, otherwise this allows spammers relay access to the ISPs servers to send spam.

The authentication is usually carried out but your connecting to the ISP when you connect to the internet. For me if I then tried to send email using a different ISP to that which I’m logged on to the internet through it failed with the same error you gave before.

I have my doubts if it is in anyway linked to the 4.8 update as the sending of email notifications basically hasn’t changed (as far as I’m aware).
