Strange problem with the resident.... Can someone help me?

Since now three days, my resident is not active when my computer start… Actually, the icon is appearing “near the clock” but no task is launched.

I have tried to launch the different resident tasks manually but a message says each time that the soft is unable to do that… the task cannot be launched…

I tried to uninstall it and re install but it still does not work…

Did someone have the same problem? What is the solution?

Thank you very much in advance.

There is a uninstall util on Avast’s website. I suggest you download that, reboot and do a clean install of Avast. Let us know if that solves the problem or not. If not, please provide more details like:

  • What OS
  • What exact version of Avast
  • What else have you tried to solve it
  • What other security (related software) do you have
    etc etc.

Thank you for your answer. Actually, I will try tonight two things:

  • check if there is no conflict between softwares…
  • check if all the services needed by the AV are running (I made some changes some days ago and this might be the problem, I did know it could generate problems…)

So I’ll keep you informed.

Bye!

I’ve done the uninstall util and re installed Avast but the problem remained the same.
Some more information…

When I try to launch the resident tasks one by one, a message says something like " The resident task aksed has not been found: the operation cannot be done

Furthermore, I have ashDisp, ash MaiSv, ashServ, ashWebSv and aswUpdSv running on my PC when I start… Is there anything missing? Do you know why these tasks are running while my resident does not seem to work…?

I have windows xp pro, my version is 4.6.652 and theoratically I do not have other soft for security any more… because I tried to uninstall my previous softs in order to know if it was a problem of conflicts…

Let me know if you have any idea for a solution… Thank you!

hi, math.
well, it seems you have lost some link. maybe you lauched some cleaner program in the recent past? if this is the case, run a checkdisk. Go to start - run - digit “chkdsk /r” and see what happens. Remember to save a registry backup first of launch every cleaning application.

Ciao!

Ok, I’ll try this. Actually, yes, I launched some cleaner programs in the recent past! But I did not know I had to backup the registry…

I will let you know…

Thank you

I guess it mustn’t be a problem with Avast! as I discovered that severals softs had problems… I will format and re install every thing… It should work!!!

Thank you for your help!
