Strange Problem

Good Morning  (I work a lot of night shifts, it always feels like morning).

I had a file sent to me in email, Avast flagged it as a virus. I sent it to the chest.
When I went back & read the email, it turned out to be a file I was expecting.
I went to the chest, & sent the folder with that file, to my floppy.

Now everytime I boot, my computer wants to write an empty folder to my floppy.
If I don’t let it write the folder, then the antivirus (Avast 4.763) will not start.

Any suggestions, or ideas what is going on? ???

thank you

John

A few questions:

  1. What is the name of the folder that is being created on the floppy?
  2. What does it mean that avast! won’t start - the icon in the tray won’t show, or is does, but it “crossed”… is the ashServ.exe process running?
  3. What operating system do you use?

Hi: I’m running XP, The Icon shows in the tray,
but is crossed out, & won’t start when I tell it to.
Says 7 processes total, 0 running.
The empty folder on the floppy is names “WSN”
or possibly “VVSN” (v v s n?)

The chest shows the file in c:\program Files\WSN (VVSN)
however there is no folder in Program Files.

Isn’t it amazing how this showed up after I reposdted my question?

Seriously, & not trying to be offensive, wehre did this thread disappear to?
I did a search for my username & there was nothing.

I repost my wuestion & then this shows up.

Anyhow, as per David’s instructions, I expanded the post,
& have (previously) answered Igor’s questions.

thanks

John

Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

Other good thing is download, install, update and run the antitrojan www.ewido.net

Can you please post a screenshot of the Chest dialog with the file’s properties? Thanks.

Also, are you sure that it was the e-mail that got moved to the Chest? I googled for “WSN” and found this link - which makes me wonder if maybe it was this spyware/adware that was actually moved?
