firstly, i assume that this means that avast scans the recycle bin, correct?

secondly, when should i “rename” (attaching .vir), and when should i “move”? when is a forced move appropriate? apparently the move is important because alwil ahs given it its own file.

Yes, avast scans the Recycle bin.
The best policy is trying to repair, then send the file to Chest.
Moving the file is a way to avoid autoexecution of it, as the same as renaming it.
