I have been told by my ISP that my system is sending out a virus called Stration.dr. Avast has not detected a virus of any kind lately. occasionally Avast warns of a virus found on an email I will always delete it and move on. Again Avast has not told me I have a virus. My Avast is up to date what should I do? How can I find out what this is and stop it.
If you can detect the infected file, can you send the samples to virus@avast.com ?
You can zip and password the files… Inform a link to this thread and the password used.
Thanks.
If a virus is replicant (coming and coming again), you should:
-
Disable System Restore on Windows ME or Windows XP. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x and it’s not available in Windows 2k. After boot you can enable System Restore again.
-
Clean your temporary files. You can use the Windows Advanced Care features for that.
-
It will be good if you download, install, update and run other trojan remover tools: a-squared and/or Free AVG Antispyware (trojan removers). Some users recommend SUPERantispyware or Spyware Terminator.
-
Use the immunization of [url=http://SpywareBlaster or, which is better, the Windows Advanced Care features of spyware/adware cleaning and removal.
Ok, i updated Avast, then did a search for Stration.dr it led me to Trend Micro where I ran a system clean for the Stration.dr. The program found no virus on my system. How can my ISP be getting emails from my system with a Stration.dr virus if I dont have one?
Maybe someone is ‘using’ your email to send them but not you yourself…
Can’t you ISP check ‘who’ is sending these emails and not only the email address?
New variants of Stration emerge hourly. Try some other online scanners as Trend Micro’s detection is not so good at the moment. F-Secure would be worth a try:
