I am using the free version of Avast and I am experiencing serious dropouts with live audio streaming - such as SKY.FM. Surprisingly, promoting Windows Media Player to realtime priority does not help. Disabling all the Avast shields DOES fix the problem - proving that Avast is the culprit. I really don’t want to go back to McAfee but if this can’t be fixed, I have no choice.
I’m having the same problem with multiple stations. I just turned off Turn off Avast and it seems that I have no problems when Avast is turned off.
Maybe I can change the protection strength but hey…doesn’t that seem to be defeating the purpose of antivirus?
Well, lowering protection (while not ideal) is certainly better than turning it off altogether. Both of you could try turning of individual shields instead to try and determine which one is doing it.
It would be nice if we knew which sites or stations are giving you trouble. I don’t have any problems with
audio streaming here not even while on WiFi in a hotel which is certainly slower than the cable connection I’m used to.
I dunno…I still remember long conversations about streaming audio problems and latency and stuff and I really couldn’t manipulate it in my system but I have this problem with my VOIP calls…Its not clear sometimes…
If you are talking literally about www.sky.fm then I have just been listening to it, tried about ten of the listen now buttons and no problems.
Wow scary David. We have the same taste in music. ;D

Even making the screenshot and posting this entry didn’t slow down or interrupt my listening pleasure.
I like Vocal New Age
No problems here either.
