Streaming Updates and DSL Bandwidth Cap

Hi All

I’m in the US, and Wondering if Streaming updates will put me over the at&t dsl 150gb a month bandwidth cap? if so, is there a way to combat that, have 4 Machines I maintain here that are used by multiple users most of them, so rather have top protection, and also stay under the cap to prevent being billed $10.00 extra over every 50 gb of data.

Currently up to 44gbs after only a few days into billing cycle.

Should I put the least used Laptop on Microsoft Security Essentials to cut down on bandwidth usage?

Tips or suggestions appreciated

If streaming updates were to cause you any grief with bandwidth limits, you are already extremely close to the limits already. The streaming updates are very small, just check (C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\defs) the file sizes of the YYMMDD99_stream sub-folders and you will see that typically each one is 1KB occasionally a little more say 4KB…

Oh ok, then relaxes and doesn’t panic too badly then–glad to know there small updates for all the PC’s

I use CATV for my ISP and my billing runs from the 19th to the 18th of the following month.
So far this month I’ve used only 6.2 GB out of 150 GB allowed. I also download lots of music each
month. End result the updates don’t take very much of your bandwidth.

Well that is a relief, according to at&t’s meter from 12/1 to 12/5 so far used 44gbs out of 150gbs, but I guess with Less on Demand downloads might work out to working out better, and be fine

Your ISP should allow you to view a running usage chart.
Mine is based on a 1200 hrs. to 1159 hrs. loop. IOW a 24 hr. loop.
