On my home PC with avast Free, I got the tray update notification to v7 and the update went off quite well. On my work PC with avast Pro, I yet have not got the tray notification. However the UI had the program update which I clicked.
After downloading the files, the update progress bar is stuck on ‘saving packages this may take a while’. It is more than half an hour. I finally hit ‘cancel’ and tried again. It immediately picks up the downloaded files but again gets stuck on ‘saving packages’. Otherwise avast (v6) and my PC are working normally.
Should I do a full clean update? First add/remove programs, then run uninstall utility and then install the Pro v7? How do I re-do the license? Or just wait till this and other issues with v7 resolve themselves over next couple of weeks?
My personal suggestion would be to wait with the update if avast 6 is working. Although I have no problems with the update, other users did. If your first attempts are starting with those issues,… My guess is that very soon we should see several of the problems resolved, either by new program / definitions updates, or some tweaks for avast’s servers.
Blue notification popup (which I thought would only turn up if the update was fine for release). Then update process stuck on “saving packages please wait”. I hit cancel after about 30 minutes.
My specific question is: no problem for me to wait with the update. But did I corrupt or break sth. with Avast or my computer by cancelling the update process at this stage.
You could reboot the system and check if avast is working correctly. Then open the main GUI in the “summary” page and if all is “green” and “secure”, then it shouldn’t be any problem in using avast 6 as it is.
Finally went the aswclear route in safe mode. Even add/remove programs did not work. Seems v7 is working ok, but did not opt for Safezone since I do not want Chrome installed.
v7 seems much slower than v6 IMO. A quick scan took almost double the time.
