hi

where should I submit the file which I belive is a worm/virus not detected by newest Avast software?

i recently downloaded some exe which after starting it and rebooting win, made copy of smss.exe (fake one) into windows\system, then put this file into registry to start with win, then svhost or avast e-mail scanner tried to contact many different servers and send some data…

Compress files with WinRAR (rar) or 7-zip (7z), password protect them with password “infected” (without quotes) and send them to virus[at]avast.com.
You can also use Chest, but please read avast! help file on how to set up Chest for submissions. This way you avoid compressing with RAR oz 7-zip…

and when should I expect any reply from avast?

There isn’t an automated reply for virus submition.
Better is trying to update the virus database and check if the file (into Chest I suppose) is detected or not.
Did you submit the file to JOTTI or VirusTotal to know the result?
