Hi,I’m using XP SP3,also I use Google Chrome latest version have installed, for a week my Avast is showing on every system start the message : Microsoft says using Internet Explorer on Windows Xp will soon not be safe FIX NOW and putting me to download Google Chrome
But why ? I already have installed Chrome, also is my default web browser, avast should check if IE is default browser and then show that message
thanks.
Not only cease using Internet Explorer but also set the Internet Properties Internet Zone security settings to HIGH. It is possible that other software than IE can use the Internet Explorer run time support software as I found with Trend Micro’s RUBotted. Consequently RUBotted no longer works which is a small price to pay for closing a vulnerability. I have lost no useful functionality in doing this.
Also ensure that Restricted site security settings are HIGH and look very carefully at Trusted sites.
“Funny thing” about the message is that IE never was safe to use, still is not safe to use and most likely never will be safe to use.
Thanks for the answer,my setting are set to default
Internet Properties Internet Zone = NORMAL
restricted site security settings = CUSTOM
I never use IE on my computer
thanks
Hi oh come on LOL. Ie 10 or 11 on windows 7 would be a lot safer than Google chrome on XP. XP being the problem here no matter what you do xp is not safe. I don’t care what browser you use but they all have problems take Google for example how many times have they been dragged into court for tracking and using peoples data. It is users practices that get them infected example downloading cracked software and of course the worst, porn sites.
This may or may not surprise you…but all search engines/browsers/websites track what you do and where you visit.
That is how they target advertising. Everytime you visit YouTube, Daily Motion, etc, you are being tracked.
You are even being tracked on the avast forums.
HOW can I get rid of Browser vulnerability warning on avast! dashboard??
Am tired of seeing the “Browser Vulnerability” and red triangle at bottom of the avast! dashboard.
1st, thanks to hake – I have increased Internet Properties Internet Zone security settings to HIGH. Additionally, I have avast! Security on all my machines, tho’ only have one machine w/ Win XP. Religiously use AV, firewall and also run Malwarebytes. I already have Google Chrome on the XP!
Almost never use Internet Explorer. Have disabled one software program on the XP (Snagit) because it refers to Internet Explorer and other MS apps.
Really do not plan to access Internet from the XP machine via Firefox or Google Chrome, unless absolutely needed.
PCLinuxOSworks live on this machine, so I’ll install it shortly to this machine & delete Win XP, if I can find a Linux compatible program that works w/ Audacity, because I use line-in to the machine w/ XP to record my cassettes to Audacity, then use an online (rhymes w/ mime zooms) service to burn to CD (for my personal use).
If not, could I transfer latest “mime tunes” program (via flash drive from machine w/ Win 7)? Thanks.
P.S. Machine w/ Win 7 has crummy audio inputs, in case anyone wondering why I want to continue using older computer.
The only way to remove the message is for avast to do so via a vps update.
The warning in part of the GUI so there is nothing any user can do except
stop staring at the GUI. I have more important things to do than stare
at the GUI.
Just as I set the Internet Properties Security on internet zone to HIGH, I also regularly immunise IE and its runtime hinterland using Spybot - Search and Destroy and with SpywareBlaster. This is so that unknown software which might use IE runtime support is inhibited from doing unwanted and potentially bad stuff, regardless of whether or not IE is actually used.
The XP - IE security information displayed in the GUI isn’t a permanent thing as it isn’t displayed on my system now. It was displayed periodically over a few days. Now this might break out again as there seems to be a rotational stream of what is displayed in the bottom section of the GUI Home page.
That said, if avast are going to put this cr4p in the GUI it should be more controlled, currently it seems that is doesn’t do any other check other than the OS is XP. It doesn’t seem to check if you have another browser and IE isn’t set to the default.
This poor investigation before displaying this warning/information just makes people mad. And it is back once again.
You may want to dump SpyBot since it has been proven to be useless.
You will be better protected with MalwareBytes. And the “tea timer” in
SpyBot has a record of creating conflicts with avast.
Hi 7DeadlySins it may have poor audio ports but that is why they make sound cards. Now Microsoft has started the count down on windows xp. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/endofsupport.aspx if you continue to use xp after this time with no security updates is it classed as a unsafe os if it is the way anti virus programs have changed you may get a warning from all anti virus programs that your os is unsafe. As for ie on windows XP you can not compare ie 8 to any new browser and of course it wont run new versions of ie. So in short if you want to continue to run windows XP you will never be secure but that is a choice each must make for themselves.
