Suggestion: alert autorun

Hello

I want to make a suggestion.

Avast could have a little feature for removable devices.

When the device was connected avast show a window warning that a file would be to run and give the option to cancel.

This would avoid a lot of contamination by viruses from removable devices.

This feature exists in the firewall Online Armor Free.

Many new viruses removable devices are not detected by Avast.

What do you think?

EDIT.:

Solution

Online Armor Free 4.5 + Avast 5

Excellent !!!

Hello Henrique - RJ,

Avast does offer a feature for removable devices: open the GUI > Scan Computer > Removable Media Scan > Scan. However this does not automatically disable autoruns.

To automatically disable autorun.inf, you would need to either do it manually in your machine or an easier way is to install something that is a flash drive/USB/removable media disinfector which you use PRIOR to using the media (e.g. Panda_USB_Vaccine http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/downloads/usbvaccine/; Flash_Disinfector http://experi3nc3.wordpress.com/2007/05/10/flash-disinfector-by-subs/; AutoRun_Eater http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Autorun-Eater.shtml), which automatically disables autorun.inf in your machine thereby not allowing this type of malware to enter the machine that requires it to run in the first place (first line of defense).

I agree that Avast and OA are a great combination, as I use it myself. However OA does not offer the autorun-disabling feature that I am referring to in the flash drive/USB disinfectors I described above. If you want to maximize your protection with the amount of malware out these days, you can add this to your arsenal, and they are compatible. Thank you.
